Purpose... the American Children's Home Emergency / Stabilization Care
program has been established to serve children who may find themselves with an immediate
and unplanned need for a place to live while a more permanent placement can be arranged.
The children are placed in this program for a maximum of 90 days and will
experience a sage environment with caring and nurturing Resident Counselors who will
provide for their needs. The children's educational, social, and physical needs will
be supplied while they are temporarily out of their home.
The goal of the Emergency / Stabilization
Care is to provide the least disruptive placement for each child placed while a permanent
placement is being located.
Target population... the Emergency / Stabilization Care Shelter accepts
children between the ages of 6 to 18 years old and who are able to attend public schools
or the on-campus school. The child must not be a danger to self or others and must
be able to function in and benefit from a group environment. The program can serve
up to 10 girls and 9 boys and the child should be in the custody of the Department of
Social Services.
Admissions... any person interested in the Emergency / Stabilization Care
Program may call to inquire about the program. Only legal custodians may arrange for
the actual placement of the child.
Intake will be the responsibility of the
American Children's Home Emergency / Stabilization Care Social Worker or a designated
staff member. The decision to admit a child will be based on the strengths and needs
of the child, the appropriateness of the referral and the availability of space.
